Not to be outshined by its cellular brethren, the new iPod line was also updated at today’s event, anchored by redesigned versions of the iPod Touch and Nano. Not only are they redesigned, they make a return to the iPod’s colorful past.
iPod Touch
Want an iPhone 5 without the Phone part? The new iPod Touch fits that bill perfectly and unlike the iPhone, it comes in colors other than black or white. It’s also adopting Siri
The new iPod is built around the same 4” Retina Display as the iPhone 5. It also shares the front facing Facetime HD camera, the dual-band WiFi, and Lightning connection cable. The CPU is the 32nm version of the A5. The rear facing camera with LED flash is a 5MP part. Those wanting cellular data will not be getting it.
The New iPod touch will come in 32GB for $299 and 64GB for $399.
iPod Nano
The iPod Nano has been a constantly changing beast. Over its six and a half year history, the Nano has been a grand experiment radically changing with every revision. That trend doesn’t stop. The iWatch has been replaced by a candy bar-shaped design both reminiscent of Nanos past and looking like a miniature iPhone.
The the 2.5” screen doesn’t run iOS as we know it, but has incorporated its look and feel for a familiar experience. A first for this line, it includes Bluetooth 4.0 for connection to headphones and car stereos. WiFi is not on the menu, so syncing will have to be via the Lightning cable.
The New iPod Nano comes in only a 16GB version for $149 in your choice of eight different colors. Both iPods will be available for pre-order this Friday, September the 14th, and will ship later in the fall. They will join the previous generation Touch and the venerable Shuffle.
